The tapestries of the Middle Ages were intended solely for the nobility, yet they often depicted scenes from daily life. The Dukes of Burgundy carried them among their baggage train in their progress from one castle to another. On a background dotted with tiny flowers, the artist has glorified the work of the grappe-vine. Lords and ladies were not above tasting the first juice of the grape.
